Coordinating Mentor Media Development

BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity. BBC Media
Action uses media and communications to reduce poverty and promote human
rights in developing countries. Our aim is to inform, connect, and empower

dialogue, and take action to improve their lives. Audiences are at the heart
of all we do. Our audiences include the journalists and others we train, as
well as listeners and viewers. Our work is built on insights from our research
and engagement with communities.

We are looking to recruit for the following full-time position Coordinating
Mentor Media Development

Overall Purpose of the Job

The Coordinating Mentor will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of
the project’s media capacity development activities, ensuring that they meet
the objectives of the project. S/he will play a critical role in developing
the capacity of media partners by ensuring skills are developed in TV, radio
and online programming and organisational capacity. S/he will manage and
oversee the work of a team of mentors; design, deliver and monitor training
and mentoring plans; and build close working relationships with the media
partners, maintaining and championing BBC values and editorial policy in all
aspects of the job.

The Coordinating Mentor will be based in Lusaka but will travel frequently
within Zambia. S/he will be part of BBC Media Action’s global team, with
opportunities to share knowledge and develop skills.

Essential Knowledge, skills, and experience

-->Minimum 5 years of experience of working as a senior radio producer or news reporter.
-->Minimum of a Bachelor Degree in Journalism, Communication or related field.
-->Minimum 2 years of experience in leading on training, coaching, and building the capacity of journalists. This could be through on the job training or in a teaching capacity.
-->Experience in designing and delivering training modules.
-->Excellent editorial and technical skills with solid experience of conceptualizing programmes, packaging, editing and production.
-->Proven track record of line managing teams, logistics and planning and tracking deliverables.
-->Experience of forecasting and managing budgets is an advantage.
-->Strong background in news and/or current affairs programming is an advantage.
-->Ability to conduct work with minimal supervision and good time management skills, with a track record of delivering results to deadline and to a high standard of quality.
-->Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English.
-->A valid driving license essential.
