JOB ANNOUNCEMENT CCB BIODIVERSITY ASSISTANT.

BCP’s mission is making conservation of wildlife habitat valuable to people.
BCP is a leading African forest carbon company. We are working with community
and Government partners to help conserve over 1 million hectares of globally
significant wildlife habitats, and to benefit over 225,000 people. BCP is
recruiting for CCB BIODIVERSITY ASSISTANT. This position reports to the Carbon
Specialist and covers all the BCP REDD+ Project areas. The CCB Biodiversity
Assistant will support our partner, Lion Landscapes, in planning, management,
coordination, supervision, and monitoring of biodiversity conservation and
management activities to ensure efficient and timely delivery of BCP’s project
goals, objectives, and targets.

PRIORITIES THAT WE’LL TRUST YOU WITH.

Work with Partners to finalize biodiversity monitoring plans for an expanded
area, including a detailed work plan approved by the BCP management team
With Partner, to carry out survey initial/refresher biodiversity monitoring
training before each survey
With Partners and community scouts to run two early dry and late dry
distance sampling surveys in each sampling frame as per finalized and agreed
biodiversity monitoring plan and survey protocols
Clean and prepare distance sampling survey data for analysis between every
survey and store the updated data in the relevant Google Drive folder
Work with the community scout managers to download and clean all scout SMART
data from normal patrols Initially, we would look at weekly cleaning, moving
on to monthly once scouts have become proficient at the use of SMART.
Partner with scout managers to provide feedback on previous SMART patrol data
to scouts, and any troubleshooting and refresher training needed Initially,
we would look for weekly feedback, moving on to monthly once scouts have
become proficient at the use of SMART
Generate maps of scout patrols for Partner, Executive Director and BCP
management after each SMART download
Work with Partners and BCP management to agree on the appropriate metrics for
SMART reporting
Generate monthly reports on scout patrol data, using agreed metrics
Work with Partners to deploy and run two camera trap arrays during the dry
season months as per finalized and agreed biodiversity monitoring plan
Work with Partners to pilot and run two village camera traps providing monthly
analysis of camera trap data, agree on the pilot terms with the two villages,
identify village representatives and provide monthly feedback reports to the
village, Partners and BCP on camera trap results
Manage and process all camera trap data in order for this to be ready for
analysis on a regular basis
ALLIANCE BUILDERS WANTED.

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Management, Natural Resources
Management, or a related discipline is a MUST.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role
Strong people skills with good communication capacity in written and spoken
English as well as local languages
Passionate about community development and conservation approaches
Proficient in the use of SMART Basic GIS skills Experience in Camera Trap
surveys and Distance Sampling Experience in conducting field work in remote
location
Good organizational skills
Effective report writing skills Data analysis and processing is of high
importance.
Computer skills and full command of Microsoft applications required
Strong commitment to achieving goals laid out by company
Ability to work and cope in a stressful environment with tight deadlines
