agribusiness, financial services, enterprise development, community

vibrant civil societies. ACDI/VOCA has approximately 34 projects in 19
countries and total revenues of approximately $128 million.
Overview
ACDI/VOCA is currently implementing a five-year program entitled “Enterprise
Development and Growth Enhanced (EDGE) Activity” in Zambia funded by the
United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The aim of the
Zambia EDGE Activity is to increase the profitability for agricultural small
and medium enterprises (SMEs) by addressing their key investment constraints
on access to finance, limited business management skills and technology, and
access to markets, thereby increasing SMEs’ productivity and ability to create
new jobs in Zambia.
Pursuant to its mission, ACDI/VOCA is seeking experienced and talented
professionals for the Social Inclusion Specialist position. The position will
implement gender and youth integration efforts across the project, including
ensuring that gender and youth-based approaches are central in the project
activities, in accordance with the program design and the intended outcomes of
the EDGE Activity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Social Inclusion Specialist will participate and advise in the
implementation of EDGE’s evidence-based, overarching Gender, Youth and Social
Inclusion (GYSI) Strategy and action plans, which includes specific guidance
and recommendations for the EDGE objective. Support the EDGE team in their
understanding of and role in the implementation of the GYSI Strategy and
Action Plans. Provide continuous gender, youth and social inclusion technical
advice and trainings to activity staff, private sector partners and other
stakeholders to build their capacity to integrate gender and youth
considerations into intervention designs, implementation, and monitoring and
evaluation. Work closely with the program team and partners to ensure that
gender equity and youth empowerment approaches are central to program design
and subsequent project activities with the aim of ensuring that women owned
SME’s, women and youth employment populations all equitably participate and
benefit from the EDGE Activity. Lead or assist in the design and
implementation of GYSI analyses, impact assessments and other learning
studies.
Engages in discussions with representatives of academic/learning/technical
institutions to build linkages with apprenticeships, internships, student
placement, research and other opportunities for youth. Act as point of contact
between youth organizations such as youth associations, entrepreneurship
programs, youth funds, etc. and EDGE to disseminate information and promote
job creation in agricultural VCs. Work closely with the MEL team to ensure
that gender and youth impacts and risks are tracked, monitored, analyzed, and
reported. Lead in the development and dissemination of learnings on the
business case of employing marginalized employment populations such as the
women and youth for SMEs and offer curriculum support on GYSI to the SME
Development team. Contribute to quarterly and annual reports, summarizing
gender and youth results and evidence. Identify and address capacity building
needs for project staff and partners, including training, mentoring, and other
technical support. Write success stories about GYSI interventions that
highlight successes and lesson learned regarding women’s empowerment, gender
and youth integration.
QALIFICATIONS
> Bachelor’s degree in gender studies, international development/development studies, sociology, or another relevant field.
> A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience working with gender, youth, and social inclusion issues in agriculture sector.
> Experience with USAID or other international donor-funded projects’ procedures, and reporting requirements.
> Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the conduct of gender integration programming.
> Clear knowledge and understanding of gender relationships within the country and EDGE project area of coverage. Demonstrated awareness of and responsiveness to gender and social issues in cross-cultural contexts.
> Proven ability conduct training/workshops. Ability to lead in the conduct of interviews and focus groups.
> Ability to communicate effectively at all levels both inside and outside the company on issues that could be complex or sensitive in nature.
> Strong written communication skills, including demonstrated ability to write required documents in a clear, concise, well-organized manner.
> Good interpersonal skills with ability to build personal relationships with staff, donor partners and government leaders at all levels in a culturally sensitive manner.
> Must be able to travel within the country.
> Must be proficient in the English language.
