JOB ANNOUNCEMENT POLICY LEAD
BCP’s mission is making conservation
of wildlife habitat valuable to people.
BCP is a leading African forest carbon company which seeks to sustainably
finance wildlife and habitat conservation through the forest carbon markets.
We are working with Community and Government partners to help improve the
conservation management over 1 million hectares of globally significant
wildlife habitats in Zambia, and to benefit 235,000 people. Most of the
project areas are located in Game Management Areas bordering strategic
National Parks in Eastern and Lusaka Province, governed by management
agreements between local communities, the Government of Zambia, and BCP.
BCP seeks an applicant to serve as a key government liaison for BCP
activities, and to support the Government in policy development which creates
value for Government communities through habitat protection.
The Lead will need to work closely with Government at all levels, with an
emphasis on central and provincial levels. The main feature of the role will
be to build awareness, support and alliances with Government to maximize the
social and economic impact of policies and projects which BCP implements or
supports. The applicant will play a key leadership role in working with a wide
range of community, private sector and government stakeholders to develop and
implement sector based solutions that address local issues of poverty and
environmental degradation. The role builds on opportunities for collaboration
and joint problem solving and seeks to establish a more integrated approach to
policy/program delivery within BCP program and geographical areas of interest.
PRIORITIES THAT WE’LL TRUST YOU WITH.
> Identify and initiate new forms of partnerships with Government to collaborate on opportunities, develop joint strategies for advocacy, enable policy dialogue and overall strengthen the community and environmental impacts of existing policies.
> Coordinate with and Support the Government in the development of new Policies in order to enhance community benefits from carbon finance, enhanced environmental protection, enhanced success of community forestry and to attract appropriate international investment to Zambia.
> Possess the ability to inform and build capacity in Government about REDD+ and community impact based approaches.
> Maintain a strong understanding of local community needs and of the services provided locally by government, non-government organisations and other investments.
> Alliance building with Government agencies and key offices to ensure Government is consistently updated, consulted and coordinated with. In addition, to be a focal point to ensure that key areas of Government interest are carefully structured into BCP’s work plans.
> Identifying and managing risk and be able to manage and escalate issues.
> Lead on analysis of political, social and economic trends in the country, as well as the effectiveness of the particular policy in question and its implementation, in order to identify key focus areas for intervention.

> Relevant bachelor’s degree
> Minimum 3 years’ relevant work experience in a role requiring Government engagement
> Strong engagement and communication skills. Written communication skills and a proactive
communication style
> The candidate must be flexible, possess a solid work ethic and commitment to outcomes.
> Ability to establish effective working relations in a multicultural team environment.
> Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills.
> Proven ability to manage multiple projects in coordination with a team.
> Strong teamwork skills, and the ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
> Computer skills required including full command of Microsoft applications.
> The candidate must exhibit strong leadership skills.
> The candidate must have good negotiation skills.
> Experience in political analysis.
> Clean driving license.

Benefits include a starting annual Gross Salary of between K 251,799.84 p.a
and K 388,417.20 p.a (Salary Scale MGT-02) all inclusive, plus great holiday
