Lumwana Mining Company Limited (LMC), a copper mining company owned by Barrick
Gold Corporation is situated in the North Western region of Zambia, some 300
km west of the Zambian Copperbelt and 95 km south west of the provincial
capital of Solwezi. The mine is a multi-pit, multi staged operation mining
approximately 100MT of ore and waste per annum and producing copper
concentrates containing an average of 120,000 tonnes of copper metal per year
over a twenty (20) year mine life, making Lumwana the largest single open cut
copper mine in Africa. The Company is now looking for highly committed and
qualified individuals to be considered for the position of *> Services
Superintendent. *>

Role Summary *>

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for Provision of
efficient equipment maintenance management and repair for electrical and
dewatering functions in the mining area. Planning and execution of in-pit
electrical reticulation and dewatering capital expenditure projects. Provision
of maintenance management and repair services for LMC’s light vehicle and
crane fleets. Your duties will include but are not limited to the following

Responsibilities *>

> Ensuring works order schedule development and compliance to plan for mining electrical, LV workshop, facilities maintenance, dewatering maintenance and support contractor activities.
> Reviewing equipment downtime and cost data, analysing and recommending reliability improvements, replacement policy, equipment and facility upgrades, and cost control measures to achieve LMC’s objectives.
> Developing functional teams and reporting structures to ensure LMC objectives in the nominated areas of responsibility are achieved.
> Ensuring accountability of personnel under his area of control carry out tasks in compliance with the companies’ safety and environmental policies and procedures.
> Development of operating and capital budgets, equipment and facility replacement and upgrade proposals.
> Actively promote full cooperation between the maintenance and mining operation.
> Take full responsibility and accountability for the performance of the maintenance services team.
> Prepare and control cost budgets for maintenance services teams.
> Identify opportunities for continuous improving of maintenance processes and systems.
> Measure and report overall equipment and infrastructure performance.
> Identify continuous improvement opportunities.
> Cooperate with the maintenance planners regarding input schedules and accurate information.
> Road maintenance on tarmac roads.
> Supply and maintain crane services to end users.

Experience & Qualifications *>

> Full Grade Twelve Certificate.
> Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
> Minimum of 10 years mining experience focused on mobile equipment and fixed plant, with 5 years at similar level or higher.
> Proficiency in managing cranes, lifting operations, maintenance of light trucks and light vehicle will be an added advantage.
> Demonstrated experience in large multi pit operations utilising large-scale mining equipment.
> Demonstrated experience in leading teams of people from diverse cultural backgrounds, and a person who leads by example.
> Demonstrated experience in asset management, project management and cost management.
> Proven ability to deliver results and act as a change agent.
> Demonstrated application of continuous improvement ideas.
> Demonstrated ability to lead a team safely and improve team safety awareness.
> Proven ability to deliver results and act as a change agent.
> Demonstrated ability to improve a department’s safety awareness.
> industry in Zambia
> Experience in managing department costs and budgeting.
> Demonstrated application of continuous improvement ideas.
> Ability to communicate effectively across all levels.
> Member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia
