COUNTRY DIRECTOR

Kids Alive Zambia is a Christ-centered organization that believes every child

children, and meet their spiritual, physical, educational, and emotional
needs, with compassion and excellence. Kids Alive Zambia’s country office is
located in Lusaka.

Kids Alive Zambia KAZ seeks to employ a fully qualified and experienced
individual to join our Senior Management Team in Zambia as COUNTRY DIRECTOR.

Purpose of the role
The Kids Alive Zambia KAZ Country Director is responsible for the overall
leadership and management of Kids Alive programs in Zambia Lusaka -Chikondi
Children’s Village, Misisi Care Centre; Mongu– Lilato Children’s Village and
Kids Alive Academy and any additional projects that maybe initiated in future.
In addition, the Country Director is accountable for the management and
leadership of a team of approximately 53 staff and 4 members of the Senior
Management Team that report directly to the Country Director. The organization
is committed to meeting safeguarding expectations across its operations and
the Country Director is expected to ensure all incidents regarding child abuse
and sexual harassment are reported and managed effectively. The Country
Director reports to the Kids Alive International Regional Vice President RVP
for Africa and Middle East.

Do you have what it takes

As a Country Director you will drive Kids Alive programs in Zambia and
influencing work setting overall direction, leading a high performing team,
ensuring accountability for meeting demanding targets and maintaining
alignment with the global strategy

You will be deeply comfortable with leading transformative change, have a
demonstrable commitment to gender equality and relish the prospect of
representing Kids Alive to the highest levels of government, civil society,
local and international media.

You will understand and drive efforts to deliver positive change through
advocating, campaigning and communicating at a national level. Equally, you
will ensure the country-operating model is fit for purpose, that we have the
right funding mix to achieve our ambition, key business processes are in place
and organisational values are embedded in everything we do.

You will lead by example in ensuring gender equality is evident in everything
we do from staffing, to programming and influencing, to ways of working. You
will work with your team to bring about the right culture that ensures we are
champions for gender equality.

You will lead a motivated team, ensure legal compliance and be ready and able
to respond to emergency and development needs of the children.

Key Responsibilities of the Role

The Country Director will

1\. Support KA with the development of strategy for KA – Zambia

Support KA with the development and implementation of a strategic plan for
KAZ, engaging staff and Management Committee members in this process.
Support field leadership and staff with the implementation of agreed strategic
plans, monitoring progress, providing effective feedback, and reporting to KA.
2\. Provide oversight to ongoing management operations for KA-Zambia

Work with KA and the local leadership team to develop and implement an annual
operational plan and budget for KAZ operations that is in line with the
strategic plan, and which has clear objectives, goals, actions and timelines.
Monitor monthly income and expenditure, working with staff to identify key
trends and any concerns; reporting concerns and action taken in response to
KA.
Ensure implementation of KA field policies and develop additional KAZ country-
specific policies that meet local needs, as necessary.
iv. Closely monitor the standards of care being provided to the children,
ensuring that their physical, emotional, social, and educational needs are
being met; monitor the program of spiritual teaching and care and ensure that
the children’s spiritual needs are being fully met.

v. Ensure robust processes are in place to keep children safe, and that KA’s
Child Protection policy is implemented in full.

vi. Development of an in-Country Fundraising strategy; overseeing all in-
country fundraising processes and events.

vii. Work with the local Zambian board to seek advice, informing them of
events, activities, progress and any concerns or challenges that arise.

viii. Represent KAZ at Zambian government departments and ensure that all
legal requirements and regulations impacting the ministry are met in full.

3\. Oversee the deployment, support and care of field staff and missionaries

i. Work to develop healthy teamwork throughout the organization, ensuring that
there is excellent communication and collaboration across different
departments and programs.

ii. Directly oversee the KA-Zambia leadership team; advise, mentor and coach
team members; ensure that team members are empowered and remain healthy
physically, emotionally and spiritually.

iii. Oversee the hire of suitable staff for the program, as well as the
redeployment or dismissal of staff members as necessary.

iv. Carry out an annual performance review of each member of the leadership
team; work with the team to ensure constructive annual performance reviews are
carried out for all staff.

v. Oversee the training and support of KA-Zambia staff, including use of the
KA Global Training Toolbox modules; arranging for staff to attend other
seminars and training programs, as appropriate; and ensuring that there are
opportunities for all staff and missionaries to grow spiritually.

vi. Attend and actively participate in the “Kids Alive International Global
Partnership Forum” every two years for field directors and other leadership
staff.

4\. Collaborate with other KA office teams, creating synergy that results in
an efficient flow of information throughout the organization

Keep KA updated regarding events at the ministry, informing the Regional Vice
President immediately of any crisis situations that arise.
Support the implementation of the KA-Zambia child sponsorship program,
ensuring that clear procedures are in place, and providing assistance in
resolving any concerns.
Assist the KA Strategic Partnerships team and Communications and Marketing
team by providing information and contacts for funding and marketing. This
includes
Communicating specific operational and project funding needs for each
ministry.
Providing information to be used in newsletters, direct mail appeals, grant
proposals and funding requests.
Providing reports on the completion of projects and the use of funds.
Developing contacts with potential donors, supporters and sponsors and passing
this on to the relevant US office team.
a. Support the KA Missionary Mobilization team with the hire and deployment of
new missionaries; the provision of pastoral care for missionaries, including
on-the-field care; support with obtaining visas and residency permits; and
identifying additional specialist support, as needed, to meet specific
missionary care needs e.g. crisis debriefing, counseling, spiritual teaching,
etc.

Work with the Service Teams Manager to schedule teams and interns to the
field.
Work with the KA Accounting team to provide transaction approval and financial
reports as required.
Share the needs of children-at-risk, and other relevant expertise, in
churches, at conferences, and with other organizations as appropriate.
Work with other global partners and agencies including Hope for Kids in the
UK, and Hope Story Canada to provide information and reports as needed.
Undertake any other additional reasonable responsibilities under the direction
of the Regional Vice President.

· Familiarity with the Bible and with Christian theology, faith and practice

references and pass a criminal background check

Qualifications and Experience

· Bachelor’s Degree preferably in a discipline relevant to this role but not
limited to Social Work, Theology, Law and Education Psychology.

· A post graduate degree will be desirable.

· At least 8 years’ experience in a senior management role in an environment
where the care and development of children is involved

· Prior responsibility for managing annual budgets of at least $500,000 or
more a must

· Prior experience working with non-profit organizations particularly those
involved in development work

· Proven experience in successfully managing projects especially related to
the development of children

· An understanding of universal human rights and child rights laws and related
local laws an added advantage

· An understanding of Zambian as well as international labour and employment
laws an added advantage

· Pastoral experience in a church or mission setting an added advantage
