UNC

Reporting to the study Principal Investigator (PI), the Study Nurse will
provide standard medical care to study participants and perform enrolment and
follow up study procedures as required by the study protocol, with skill and
accuracy. The study nurse will be responsible for referring participants to
the study PI or other health facilities as need arises. They will collect and
record accurate and confidential data and perform self-quality control and
assurance activities.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY AND DUTIES

Study Procedures

> Conducting assigned study procedures and adhere to procedural and international guidelines for research conduct. Activities may include
> Screening, treatment (thermocoagulation, cryotherapy and loop electrosurgical procedure – LEEP) diagnosis (punch biopsy) of the cervix, enrolling eligible study participants at all of the study sites.
> Collecting and dispatching study samples in a timely manner
> Recruiting and retaining participants
> Obtaining participant locator information
> Obtaining informed consent
> Collecting data and conducting focus groups
> Performing QAQC procedures, as needed
> Assisting with off-site source document retrieval as required
> Reporting of SAEs within 24hours of awareness
> Maintaining strict participant confidentiality and privacy at all times
> Conducting data entry and/or providing oversight for data entry
> Keeping a constant updated filing system in place for all required study activities.

Documentation

> Reviewing and contributing to development and revisions of study materials and tools
> Maintaining high quality study documentation at all times as directed by PIs, and per study Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

Communication

> Communicating with fellow staff members openly and honestly about study progress, issues, and/or problems that may arise
> Actively participating in problem solving
> Working collegially as part of the study team
> Effectively collaborating with the staff as necessary
> Providing high quality service to participants by maintaining pleasant relationships at all times and attending to participants in a timely manner
> Being responsive to enquiries from participants’ family members as required

Inventory System

> Being accountable and responsible for study resources and supplies, such as data collection forms, participant files, participant travel reimbursement, and facilities to avoid stock outs
> Ensuring a proper inventory system for study supplies and equipment is in place

Other Activities

> Assisting with study translations as requested
> Performing high quality work at all times
> Attending workshops, conferences and other meetings as requested
> Any other duties or responsibilities found necessary for the successful implementation and functioning of the study

REQUIRED TRAINING

> Must complete all required study training, including routine Human Subject Protection and Good Clinical Practices training
> Maintain a validated Professional Practicing License at all times
> Acquire and maintain an in-depth knowledge of the study protocol

SPECIAL SKILLS/COMPETENCES

> Demonstrated experience in research activities
> Must be organized and an independent worker with ability to work with minimum supervision
> Must have excellent, communication, problem solving, analytical, interpersonal and human relationship skills.
> Must be proficient in Microsoft programs
> Able to organize and schedule multiple work-related tasks efficiently

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

> The job holder must have a minimum of a Registered or Enrolled Nursing Diploma or recognized equivalent with 3 years experience in research activities; with work experience in a reputable NGO
> Must have a valid Practising License
> Must be registered with the General Nursing Council of Zambia
> Must have experience with performing minimally invasive cancer prevention procedures.
