growth, high impact SMEs that have received investment.

WHY ATTEND

Growth-oriented businesses need access to finance to reach scale, but the
Zambian financial sector offers finance that tends to be neither affordable
nor accessible.

This lack of access to capital at all levels acts as a severe constraint on
business growth and is hindering private sector success. In particular, this
affects businesses that can achieve the type of step-change growth, requiring
extra working capital injections to fund higher levels of operation and
funding for capital expenditure. With little opportunity for securing such
funding within the domestic banking system and a lack of understanding of how
to approach venture capitalists and other external funding sources, many firms
find their route to expansion barred.

But Impact investors are more flexible, making them an ideal source of growth
capital for businesses. And they are looking for stable returns and want their
investment to deliver positive social and environmental benefits.

Prospero, a private sector development programme, funded by UK Aid, in
partnership with Impact Capital Africa (ICA), supports Zambian-based companies
looking for growth capital with investment readiness preparation support and
providing linkages to impact investors. Since 2018, the partnership has
facilitated approximately $50 million in investment deals for high-growth,
high-impact businesses in Zambia.
